Geography
Set up the regions, areas and territories that every school is filed under.
/admin/geographyGeography is a three-level map of where the company sells. Every school belongs to one territory, so the territories have to exist before any school can be added or imported.
The screen shows the three levels side by side as Regions, Areas / Branches and Territories. Each area shows the region it belongs to, and each territory shows its area.
Add a region, area or territory
Add the region
In the Regions column, select New. Enter a Name and a short Code (for example WT), then select Create.
Add its areas
In the Areas / Branches column, select New. Choose the Region, enter a Name and a Code (for example JR), then select Create.
Add the territories
In the Territories column, select New. Choose the Area / Branch, enter a Name, then select Create.
Fields
| Level | Field | Rules |
|---|---|---|
| Region | Name | Required. |
| Region | Code | Required, up to 8 characters. No two regions may share a code. |
| Area / Branch | Region | The region it sits in. |
| Area / Branch | Name | Required. |
| Area / Branch | Code | Required, up to 8 characters. No two areas may share a code. |
| Territory | Area / Branch | The area it sits in. |
| Territory | Name | Required. Territories have no code. |
Delete an entry
Select the bin icon next to a region, area or territory, then confirm.
SalesYatra refuses the delete while anything still points at the entry: a territory with schools in it, an area with territories, or a region with areas. The message reads "Cannot delete this territory — other records still reference it."
Entries can't be edited here. To replace a territory, add the new one, change the Territory on each of its schools, then delete the old one.
Where geography is used
- The school form. Each school's Territory is chosen from this list. See Schools.
- The school register. The Territory column shows where each school sits.
- School import. Each row in a schools CSV names its territory, and SalesYatra looks it up by name, ignoring capitals. A name that matches no territory fails that row with "unknown territory". See Import.
Give every territory a different name. The school import finds a territory by its name alone, so two territories called "Central" can't be told apart.
